DARO: Many development projects in Sarawak have been completed, proving they were not empty promises and leaving many ‘drooling’ over the success, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development said the people in the state are incredibly fortunate to have Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as their leader.

Uggah described the Premier as a visionary, a man of integrity who is courageous, decisive, and resourceful in securing funds for the state.

“Therefore, we can proudly witness Sarawak advancing with rapid development, particularly over the past eight years.

“We have achieved a great deal since Abang Johari took over the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

“Since 2017, Abang Johari has planned and implemented infrastructure developments — including roads, bridges, water, and electricity. The total cost of these projects has amounted to RM30 billion,” he said at the launching ceremony of the Muara Lassa Bridge here Saturday (Feb 22).

He stated that among the proposed projects were the coastal road, at an estimated cost of RM5.5 billion, and the Second Trunk Road, at a total cost of RM5.42 billion.

“We are also the first state to construct 16 bridges simultaneously, at a total cost of RM5.9 billion. This includes three bridges that were cancelled by the federal government in 2018: Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, Igan Bridge, and Rambungan Bridge,” he said.

He added that the completed bridges so far include Marudi Bridge and Muara Lassa Bridge.

“The bridges scheduled for completion in 2025 include Sejingkat Bridge, Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, Saribas 1 Bridge, Rajang Bridge, the iconic cable-stayed Bintulu-Jepak Bridge, Kemena-Sebauh Bridge, Sungai Limbang Bridge, Sungai Lingga Bridge, and Sungai Kemena-Sebauh Bridge in Bintulu.

“In 2026, another five bridges will be completed: Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, Saribas 2 Bridge, Krian Bridge, Paloh Bridge, and Igan Bridge,” he added.

On the water supply grid in remote areas, he said the Sarawak government has allocated RM4 billion for the rural electricity scheme, with costs amounting to RM2.4 billion, while telecommunications coverage in Sarawak currently stands at 89 per cent.

He emphasised that all this development was only possible due to the unity of the people, their support for GPS representatives, and their collective backing of Abang Johari.

“Let us continue to support Abang Johari to ensure that the development of our beloved Sarawak can continue, enabling us to achieve the status of a modern and developed region,” he stressed.
