KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas declined to comment on the upcoming special sitting of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), set for July 7.

When met by reporters during the Gawai Dayak 2025 ‘Niti Daun’ Parade at the Kuching Waterfront, Uggah dismissed the question, stating it was unrelated to the day’s event.

“That’s not… It has nothing to do with today’s parade.

“If you want to ask how many contingents there are, I can tell you,” he said, redirecting attention back to the cultural celebration.

Earlier, Uggah had lauded the parade – which featured 91 contingents from various Dayak ethnic groups – as a meaningful expression of the Dayak community’s contribution to national development and a reflection of Sarawak’s vibrant multicultural heritage.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian confirmed on Friday that he had received notification of the special DUN sitting but said he had not yet been briefed on its agenda.

“We were informed there will be a special DUN sitting on July 7, but the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be the one to table the matter, not me.

“So I do not have any details at this point,” Dr Sim said, adding that the sitting is expected to last only one day.

A formal notice issued by DUN Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, earlier confirmed that the Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (Special Sitting) will convene at 9:00 am on Monday, July 7, 2025.
