SELANGAU: None of the Sarawak government’s Projek Rakyat have been classified as “sick projects”, with all developments progressing smoothly and according to schedule, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He credited the achievement to the continuous monitoring by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) and close coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (MIPD).
“JKR consistently monitors Projek Rakyat announced by the Sarawak Premier to ensure they are completed as scheduled and that we maintain zero sick projects,” Uggah told reporters during a press conference after visiting two project sites here on Tuesday (June 10).
One of the sites visited was the construction of SMK Selangau, which has shown promising progress.
The project, which began in July 2024, has achieved 19.41% physical completion, approximately 4.34% ahead of schedule. It is now projected to be completed by December 2026, six months earlier than the original June 2027 deadline.
Uggah noted that the progress has been aided by favourable site conditions, with the location not situated on peat soil or hilly terrain.
The SMK Selangau project includes the construction of 18 classrooms, a dormitory, teachers quarters, and various supporting facilities on a 22.2-acre site at Mile 51½ along Jalan Sibu–Selangau.
Uggah also visited the construction site of a new RM3 million access road linking the Pan Borneo Highway to Selangau town. The project is expected to significantly improve local connectivity and mobility.
He assured the public that implementing agencies such as JKR Sarawak are committed to ensuring all development projects are executed efficiently and delivered on time for the benefit of the people.
