KUCHING: UiTM Sarawak has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the state government on developing the tourism industry through knowledge transfer, research and the implementation of strategic programmes.
This collaboration is expected to further strengthen Sarawak’s position as a competitive tourism destination.
It is also expected to open wider opportunities for students and local industrialists to be involved in the development of the tourism sector and the creative industry.
Discussions were held on such potential when UiTM Sarawak Rector, Prof. Dr Firdaus Abdullah, led a university delegation on a courtesy call to Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah here recently.
According to a media statement issued by UiTM Sarawak, the meeting was to strengthen the existing relationship between the university and the state government, particularly in the fields of tourism, creative industries, youth development, sports, and entrepreneurship.
Among the plans discussed was the organising of the University Intercultural Exchange (UNITE25): “Mapping Sarawak to the World” which is scheduled to take place from Sept 12-21 at the Malaysian Embassy in Dublin, Ireland.
In addition, UiTM Sarawak will also host the 9th Borneo Dance Festival in November.
UiTM Sarawak is also planning several edutourism programmes that will involve the participation of students from higher education institutions (HEIs) from home and abroad.
This programme is seen as an effort to strengthen Sarawak’s tourism sector by introducing tourism experiences based on education and culture.
This collaboration is expected to further strengthen Sarawak’s position as a competitive tourism destination as well as open up wider opportunities for students and local industrialists to be involved in the development of the tourism sector and the creative industry.
