KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak is targeting 280 participants for its International Platinum Charity Effort Run (i.PACE Run 2026), a 5km community charity run aimed at supporting financially struggling students.

UiTM Sarawak rector, Firdaus Abdullah, said the university expects participation numbers to continue increasing, with 129 runners already registered about a month before the event.

“We still have time and we expect the numbers to continue growing.

“We want this to become an annual event with more international participation,” he said during a press conference at UiTM Samarahan Campus 2 today (May 25).

The run, scheduled for June 27, is expected to attract students, alumni, international participants, running enthusiasts and members of the public.

Held in conjunction with the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) alumni’s 70th anniversary celebration, the event also aims to strengthen community engagement through sports and recreational activities.

“This is not only for students or staff. Families can join too,” he said.

Firdaus added that proceeds from the charity run and related fundraising initiatives would help support students from B40 families and those facing financial difficulties.

“We want to make sure students can focus on their studies without worrying too much about financial burdens,” he said.

He added that the university hopes the run could eventually attract wider international participation and become part of Sarawak’s sporting calendar in the future.

The programme is jointly organised with Kelab KEKITA, PEWANI, PERASA, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak and City Jogger’s Club Kuching.
