KUCHING: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak plans to install faster Internet connection in its Samarahan Campus 2 in order to transform it into a “Smart Campus”.
“This involves the installation of Big Data laboratories and also smart lecture rooms equipped with hightech audio and visual systems,” said UiTM Sarawak Rector, Dato Dr Jamil Hamali when attending a public lecture on the “Challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Malaysian Higher Education” held at Jubli Hall, UiTM Sarawak, Samarahan Campus, yesterday.
He added that UiTM Sarawak was aware that the Fourth Industrial Revolution, driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), 3D-printing, autonomous vehicles, nanotechnology and also green energy production, had started.
Jamil also pointed out that the new technologies would provide opportunities in the formal education system, and as an education provider, it was vital that the university prepare its students for the future. Also present was the Deputy Rector (Academic) UiTM Sarawak, Professor Dr Rosita Suhaimi.
