KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar welcomed the visit of Speaker of the United Kingdom (UK) House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle, describing it as a meaningful step in strengthening bilateral ties.
Wan Junaidi hoped the visit would pave the way for greater collaboration between Malaysia and the UK in various sectors, benefitting both nations.
Lindsay, who paid a courtesy call on the Governor at the Astana Negeri Sarawak yesterday (Feb 20), was accompanied by British High Commission officials, including Ambassador Fenny Nuli.
The visit aimed to foster closer ties between the two nations, particularly in parliamentary democracy.
Discussions touched on constitutional matters, legislative processes, parliamentary rules and governance.
The federal-state relationship within Malaysia’s federal system was also a key topic of discussion.
“As an active member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Malaysia continues to play a role in strengthening cooperation among legislative institutions across Commonwealth nations,” said Wan Junaidi in a Facebook statement.
