KUALA LUMPUR: A delegation from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) paid a courtesy visit to Senate president, Senator Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, at the Parliament building today.

Led by Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, the delegation included UKAS Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, Special Administrative Officer Datuk Takun Sunggah and other senior UKAS officials.

The visit aimed to provide the delegation with first-hand insight into the functions and role of Parliament within Malaysia’s democratic system.

During the hour-long session, Awang Bemee briefed the delegation on the country’s parliamentary democracy.

He suggested that UKAS establish a dedicated section to monitor and verify information.

“This is crucial in countering misinformation, especially with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI),” he was quoted as saying.

He further commended UKAS for its efforts in delivering accurate reports, particularly on Sarawak government matters.

Awang Bemee encouraged the agency to strengthen its collaboration with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) members of Parliament and senators.

Strengthening these ties, he said, would ensure the public receives timely and reliable information.

Following the meeting, the UKAS delegation toured the Parliament complex and observed the Senate proceedings.
