BALI: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (UKAS) participation in the 11th World Conference on Media & Mass Communication (MEDCOM) 2026 strengthens preparations for Sarawak Media Conference 2026 and expands engagement.

Leading the UKAS delegation was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, accompanied by Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee and UKAS Deputy Director Mohamed Faizal Shah Ali.

The two-day conference, themed “Rethinking Media Futures: Sustainability, Resistance & Communication Justice,” gathers international media experts to deliberate on key issues such as industry sustainability, communication justice, and challenges in the digital era.

Abdullah said UKAS’s involvement in MEDCOM 2026 is significant as it offers direct insights into shaping the content and direction of the upcoming Sarawak Media Conference 2026.

“Exposure to these global perspectives allows UKAS to frame a conference that is more progressive, relevant, and responsive to the current media landscape,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report.

He noted that elements which could be adopted include selecting high-impact themes, engaging international speakers, and adopting a more inclusive, dynamic and solution-oriented discussion format.

At the same time, he said the participation provides an opportunity for UKAS to expand its strategic networks with international media and academic institutions, potentially enhancing the credibility of the Sarawak Media Conference 2026.

Proceedings on the opening day featured keynote sessions by global media figures, focusing on the future of the industry, including innovations in information dissemination and strategies to address the spread of misinformation.

The delegation also gained valuable exposure to best practices in organising large-scale conferences, including event management, participant engagement, and the use of digital technologies for more effective content delivery.

UKAS’s presence at MEDCOM 2026 serves not just as international participation, but as a key catalyst in ensuring the Sarawak Media Conference 2026 is delivered with greater impact, authority and global standards.
