KUCHING: Against the odds and driven by discipline and unity, Bujang Sigat paddled their way to a RM20,000 victory in the prestigious 30-paddler ‘Raja Sungai’ Open category at the 2025 Sejijak Regatta, despite operating with minimal resources.
Bujang Sigat claimed first place, followed by Landas Danawa Kasihnya Warisan 3 in second, Sinaran Ratu Siska N.6 Tupong in third, and Pantai Damai JK 85 Selakau in fourth.

The triumph capped off a remarkable run, with the team also securing first place in the 20-Paddle Open category and third in the 15-Paddle Open category.
Team manager, Kamis Hanis, said that although Bujang Sigat was a relatively small team and lacked the facilities of larger outfits, their spirit made the difference.
“We don’t have the infrastructure or logistics that the big teams enjoy.
“But what we do have is strong team spirit and discipline. That’s what carried us through,” he told Sarawak Tribune at Kampung Sejijak on Sunday (June 15).
He credited the success to the collective efforts of three combined teams working together under a shared vision.
“This wasn’t just my effort alone. It was a joint achievement, a collaboration of three teams: Mahkota Dewa Gedong, King Paddler Gedong, and Bujang Sigat – united by a single goal.”
Looking ahead, Kamis hopes the team can continue competing despite the challenges they face.
“We don’t have sponsors or external funding. We’re self-financed and make do with what little we have. But that’s what fuels our hunger. From hardship comes determination,” he said.
