Undocumented workers detained during immigration raid at Asajaya plantation

The immigration enforcement officers arrest 35 foreign men during the early morning raid at an oil palm plantation.

ASAJAYA: Thirty-five men had their sleep interrupted when immigration officers suddenly swept through the workers’ quarters in an oil plantation, today.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said that the raid was conducted at 2am by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit.

“A few hours before the raid on the plantation, Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit also deployed enforcement personnel to three separate locations around Kuching City, including car workshops and entertainment centres.

“Two individuals were detained during the operation, which began late in the evening,” said the statement.

These illegal foreigners were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

The 35 foreign men arrested in a raid conducted by the immigration enforcement officers.

All of them were being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The Sarawak Immigration Department encourages members of the public to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
