BAU: An unemployed man has been arrested for allegedly possessing suspected syabu worth RM540 yesterday (July 14).

The operation, codenamed “Ops Tapis”, was carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) by the roadside around 11.30 am.

Bau police chief, DSP Dr Daram Ruer, said the 29-year-old suspect attempted to flee from police inspection but was swiftly detained.

“Checks led to the finding of 10 small plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu, hidden in the front pocket of his jeans.

“The drugs, weighing 5.40g, have an estimated street value of RM540,” he said.

The suspect, who tested positive for drugs, will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, he could face imprisonment, caning, a fine, or be placed under police supervision for up to three years.

Dr Daram assured that the NCID will continue to carry out similar operations in areas suspected of drug activity.
