KANOWIT: An unemployed man was arrested for allegedly molesting a female worker at a shop in town here on Wednesday.

Kanowit Police Chief, DSP Junical Ujal, said the incident occurred at around 9:30 am while the victim, a local woman, was working at the premises.

“The suspect suddenly approached her, touched her shoulder, and then grabbed her left breast while uttering obscene words.

“Shocked by the act, the victim pushed the suspect’s hand away and fled to the front of the shop before lodging a police report,” he said.

Preliminary investigation found that the incident was captured on the shop’s closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Acting on the report, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) tracked down and arrested the 51-year-old at his residence.

Junical said police also seized several items believed to have been worn by the suspect during the incident, including a black-and-blue shirt, a pair of long pants, black underwear, and a cap.

The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty.
