KUCHING: The local authorities welcomed complaints lodged by members of the public regarding the unhygienic handling of food at the Ramadan bazaar, following a viral Facebook post recently which claimed a grilled fish purchased at the Kota Sentosa Ramadan bazaar was full of worms.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap advised that complainants must also ensure that the information provided was accurate, stressing that enforcement officer from local authorities will instruct the stall owners to close their stalls and prohibit them from trading if the issue is genuine.

He made these remarks when approached by reporters after officiating the Launch of the 2024 Kota Sentosa Ramadan Bazaar yesterday.

“For me, cleanliness is paramount, which is why we built Kota Sentosa Town Square,” he said.

Having served as a councillor for 10 years, he stated that the enforcement authorities are highly committed to ensuring that complaints were promptly addressed.

Yap clarified this hygiene issue to address the negative speculation about Ramadan Bazaar cleanliness due to a complaint that went viral in a Facebook post.

The owner of the Facebook post stated that the fish she bought at Kota Sentosa was not thoroughly cleaned and expressed hope that vendors would prioritise cleanliness.
