KUCHING: Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) is committed to ensuring fair and prudent disbursement of its monetary resources.

In line with this, it is calling on its members to give feedback on how it could improve on its services to the people.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister-in-charge of Unifor, said one of the biggest challenges it faced pertained to fund distribution.

“We need to find how best to use our fund as fair as possible. We have to be fair and prudent in our spending. We have our guidelines and we are also answerable to the government,” he said after attending a Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) pre-strategic planning programme meeting at a hotel here yesterday.

Present at the meeting were heads or senior representatives of all 16 religious groups under the care of Unifor. Also present were Deputy State Secretary Datuk Ik Pahon and Unifor director Richard Lon.

Uggah said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had allocated RM50 million to the unit this year.

On an unrelated issue, he said Unifor was also planning to set up a council of experts to help deal with major issues that might crop up now and then.

“We need the council to work out solutions when there are issues or misunderstandings. If there are parties that do not understand our hopes and aspirations, we hope to convey to them we are also trying to understand their hopes and aspirations. In this way we can continue to strength our existing harmony and unity,” he said.

Uggah, who is also Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development Minister, called on the different houses of worship under Unifor to help him propagate modern agriculture to their members.

He said his ministry was ready to set up model fertigation or hydroponic farms to introduce the concept in their areas.
