PAKAN: A total of RM4.2 million has been allocated under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) for the Pakan constituency from 2019 to 2025.
Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said the allocation has benefited 21 churches in the constituency.
“This assistance reflects the ongoing concern of the Sarawak government in ensuring that all religious communities receive appropriate support regardless of their background,” he said during the UNIFOR allocation handover ceremony here recently.
He added that the state government also intends to increase the UNIFOR allocation this year, subject to compliance with conditions and the submission of complete project implementation reports to ensure transparency in the use of public funds.
He said that allocation is prioritised for places of worship that have never received aid before, with the total allocation expected to be higher than in previous years.
However, he emphasised that every project receiving UNIFOR funds is required to submit an implementation report, enabling the government to evaluate effectiveness and consider additional support in the future.
“The scope of UNIFOR allocations covers construction and improvement work for places of worship, land work, cemetery cleaning, access road construction and facilities related to burial management, but does not include land purchase,” he said.
