KUCHING: Eleven enforcement and uniformed agencies will be honoured at the 2026 Chinese New Year Sumbangsih handover at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi this Friday (Feb 13).
Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the symbolic handover will be officiated for the first time at the complex by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Abdul Johari Tun Openg at 10am.
She said for this year’s festive season, a total of 12,000 Sumbangsih packs were prepared for Chinese New Year (CNY).
“This year is slightly different because CNY, the month of Ramadan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak fall close to one another, so instead of multiple handover sessions as in previous years, a single symbolic ceremony will be held.
“For CNY alone, we prepared 12,000 Sumbangsih packs. The same number was prepared for Gawai Dayak and for Hari Raya Aidilfitri as well, so in total, it was done three times over.
“Hence, packing actually began in December 2025 to ensure sufficient supplies and that everything would be ready on time,” she told reporters after officiating at the 2026 Festive Sumbangsih Packaging Ceremony held at Wisma Wanita here today (Feb 11).
Fatimah added that the Sumbangsih initiative is a signature programme that reflects the appreciation and gratitude of the Sarawak government and the people.
“Year after year, we organise this initiative to recognise the dedication and sacrifices of our enforcement and uniformed personnel.
“While others are celebrating at home, they are working wherever they are assigned. Their sacrifices ensure that Sarawak remains sovereign, peaceful and safe , allowing the public to celebrate the festive season securely,” she added.
The 11 enforcement and uniformed agencies receiving the Sumbangsih packs are the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) ), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM),Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Malaysian Prison Department (JPM), Malaysia Immigration Department(JIM), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDRM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), and Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).
Meanwhile, this year, the Sumbangsih packs have been enhanced based on feedback from recipients.
“We listened to feedback from recipients, who said that retort food or ready-to-eat meals would be more convenient.
“There is no need to cook, just add hot water and you will have a complete and filling meal,” she said.
Each pack contains five types of food and drinks, which are expected to bring cheer to the personnel during the festive season, even though they are away from their families.
