KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) secured two special awards, four gold, two silver and six bronze medals at the International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning 2019 (Pecipta 2019) held recently.
Unimas also secured the coveted Best of the Best Award with a project entitled ‘Smart Dismantle Fish Farming’ by Associate Professor Dr Saiful Bahari Mohd Yusoff.
The recipients of the Special Awards are Dr Charles Bong Hin Joo for his project on ‘Automatic Control System For Flow Regulator Gate In Drainage Network’ and Dr Khatijah Yaman (Introduction of water harvesting filtration system in dengue Combi programme).
Four recipients of the Gold Medal Awards are associate professor Dr Saiful Bahari Mohd Yusoff for his project on ‘Smart Dismantle Fish Farming’; associate professor Dr Saiful Bahari Mohd Yusoff (Portable Crab Fattening System); Dr Mohd Razip Asaruddin (Birdnest Cosmetics) and associate professor Dr Yakup Mohd Rafee (ID-Map).
Associate professor Dr Dyg Nurfatimah Awg Iskandar for her project on ‘Automatic Classification of Left Ventricle (LV) Remodelling’ and Dr Khatijah Yaman (Introduction of water harvesting filtration system in dengue Combi programme) are recipients of the silver medals.
The bronze medal winners are associate professor Dr Musdi Shanat (Eco-kiddo Bedpan); Dr Sze San Nah (eRaceColl); Dr Sze San Nah (Distressing Patient Waiting Time Reduction Through Big Data Predictive Algorithm); Dr Abdulrazak Saleh Al-Hababi (Flood Prediction Using Deep Learning); Dr Charles Bong Hin Joo (Automatic Control System For Flow Regulator Gate In Drainage Network)and Dr Shafrida Sahrani@Shahran and Dr Dyg Norkhairunnisa Abang Zaidel for their project ‘Queuing Solution’.
Unimas’ outstanding performance has given their researchers more encouragement and motivation to persevere in their research endeavours.
With an excellent haul of 15 awards, Unimas is positive that these innovations would lead towards commercialisation, and ultimately propel Unimas towards attaining excellence in the research and innovation ecosystem.
Pecipta is a biennial programme organised by the Ministry of Higher Education together with its partner institutions since 2001 and aims to showcase innovative products and services from institutions of higher learning (IHL).
This year, the event attracted 694 participants comprising 301 from public universities, 90 from private institutions, 12 from international institutions, 8 from other institutions, 18 from STEM, 27 from special education innovation, 18 groups consisting of 54 students from Fast4ward: IOT Racing, 12 groups consisting of 59 members from Fraunhofer Makethon, 103 students from IME Solidworks Design Competition and 22 exhibitors from industries and government agencies.
