KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is now ranked among the Top 200 universities in Asia in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026.

UNIMAS is placed at number 197, a significant leap from the 261–270 band two years ago and number 271 in 2023. The university also ranked number 56 in Southeast Asia.

The improved standing has positioned UNIMAS as the 12th highest-ranked public university in Malaysia.

According to the university, the improved ranking reflects substantial progress across key performance indicators, particularly in teaching quality, research performance, and global visibility.

“These achievements are supported by improvements in faculty-student ratios and a growing number of academic staff with PhDs, contributing to a more vibrant learning environment and high-impact research output,” it said.

UNIMAS said the accomplishment aligns with its long-term vision to be a “Community-Driven University for a Sustainable World.”

As it continues to strengthen its research and academic capabilities, UNIMAS said it remains committed to becoming a forward-looking, research-intensive institution that combines regional relevance with global ambition, benefiting both the local community and the broader academic landscape.
