Unimas, Bureau Veritas partner on green transition research

SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bureau Veritas (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd to strengthen research, innovation, and academic development through university–industry collaboration.

The partnership, aligned with the Unimas Strategic Plan, focuses on capacity building, sustainability initiatives, and applied research to support Sarawak’s green transition and technical certification needs, aiming to expand professional training, knowledge transfer, and industry exposure for students and researchers.

Bureau Veritas, a global provider of verification and certification services, will work with Unimas’ Institute of Sustainable and Renewable Energy (ISuRE) to advance projects in hydrogen development, renewable energy, and green infrastructure.

Key initiatives include plans for an industry testing facility at Unimas, the development of a hydrogen laboratory for research and development, and enhanced opportunities for industrial training placements and staff attachments with Bureau Veritas.

The MoU also emphasises the importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, with both parties committing to strengthening green certification frameworks and aligning with global sustainability standards.

Representing Unimas at the signing were Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib, deputy vice-chancellor (research & innovation); Professor Ts Dr Shanti Faridah Salleh, director of ISuRE; and Ts Dr Yonis M. Yonis Buswig, deputy director of ISuRE.

Bureau Veritas Malaysia was represented by Datuk Mohd Nizam Abdul Malik, chairman of Bureau Veritas (Malaysia), along with senior Sarawak representatives.
