KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), through its Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), remains committed to ensuring that the Exhibition of Creativity, Innovation, Technology and Research in the Arts (eCITRA) continues to evolve with current developments as a vital platform for integrating art, research and future-driven technology.

FACA Dean, Dr Louis Ringah Kanyan, said the 2025 edition of eCITRA reflects UNIMAS’ strong commitment to nurturing and advancing the creative arts industry not only in Sarawak but also nationwide.

“Our goal is to share valuable insights and discoveries across various art genres through global platforms and academic discourse.

“This exhibition also aligns with UNIMAS’ mission as a community-oriented institution through scholarly research and high-quality publication,” he said during the launching of eCITRA 2025 at the FACA Gallery, UNIMAS on Friday.

Louis said the exhibition serves as a solid platform for artists and enthusiasts to showcase their talents, present research findings, and share their creative work with the public.

He added that the initiative received encouraging participation from academics and students, featuring works across diverse art forms including fine arts, paintings, prints and digital creations.

Building on the recent success of the Borneo InTEX 2025 programme, he said UNIMAS’ gold and silver awards in art and technology-based projects further strengthened the university’s drive toward excellence through eCITRA.

“Art, culture and heritage are key catalysts for the growth of Sarawak’s tourism and creative industries. They form part of our shared national identity, not only attracting visitors but also reinforcing our collective narrative as a nation.

“For instance, through Borneo InTEX 2025, our lecturers and students made us proud by earning gold and silver awards for their art and innovation projects,” he said.

He added that such initiatives also encourage faculties to translate their research into practical applications that benefit communities.

“I hope the academic community and creative practitioners will continue to enhance their expertise and expand their skills. In doing so, they can contribute meaningfully to community development in key areas such as health, education, telecommunications and rural development,” he said.
