KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has been appointed as the new United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Hub vice-chair for Outreach and Partnership for SDG 15: Life on Land.
The appointment follows a rigorous global selection process that considered over 330 applications from higher education institutions worldwide.
UNIMAS will lead outreach and partnership initiatives for the UNAI SDG 15 Hub from December 2025 to December 2027, strengthening efforts to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said UNIMAS is deeply honoured by the global recognition.
“The appointment underscores our aspiration to be a community-driven university for a sustainable world through strategic collaboration and partnership,” he said in a statement.
He added that the appointment aligns with the university’s long-standing commitment to environmental initiatives, including sustainability reporting, environmental programmes, campus greening and climate-conscious projects.
“This is an exciting new chapter in our journey toward advancing cross-sectoral partnerships that ensure Life on Land remains vibrant for future generations,” he said.
The UNAI network currently comprises more than 1,700 universities and colleges across over 150 countries.
UNAI also commended UNIMAS’ dedication to promoting SDG 15 through innovative research and community engagement, highlighting the university’s ability to foster collaboration toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
