KUCHING: The Faculty of Education, Language and Communication (FPBK) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) successfully held a collaborative programme today aimed at improving the Bahasa Melayu performance of Form Five students.

The one-day programme, organised in partnership with the Simunjan District Education Office (PPD Simunjan), involved four secondary schools, SMK Simunjan No. 1, SMK Gedong, SMK Sebuyau, and SMK Sri Sadong, with a total of 118 students participating.

According to a statement issued by UNIMAS today, the programme was conducted by Bahasa Melayu lecturers from FPBK and supported by subject teachers from the participating schools.

Student facilitators from FPBK also assisted throughout the programme.

“The main objective of the programme was to assist Form Five students, particularly by providing exposure to answering techniques for Section B of Paper Two in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Bahasa Melayu examination.

“This objective was achieved through motivational talks and group training sessions that incorporated innovative answering strategies to foster an engaging learning environment,” it said.

The registration began as early as 8:40 am, and participants took part in four core activities: a motivational talk, group training, a talk on answering techniques for Section B of Paper 2, and a workshop session (LDK) focused on the same topic.

All activities were designed based on the latest structure and format of the SPM Bahasa Melayu subject.

The programme concluded at 4:00 pm with a closing ceremony officiated by UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit.
