MUKAH: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has promoted sustainable living among Kampung Teh residents through a community workshop held during the Sarawakku Membaca Bersama Pemimpin Sarawak Carnival here yesterday (Aug 1).
The workshop taught participants how to turn used cooking oil into environmentally friendly soap.
According to a statement, fifteen villagers participated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Eco Enzyme and Eco Soap Workshop held at the Kampung Teh Multipurpose Hall.
The workshop was led by Dr Ain Nadirah Romainor and Dr Mugunthan Perumal from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, together with Dr Faizan Iza Zainuddin from the Faculty of Economics and Business.
Held in collaboration with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, the workshop was part of the eighth edition of the Sarawakku Membaca Bersama Pemimpin Sarawak Carnival, which promotes reading while raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through community based activities.
The carnival also featured exhibitions by various state and federal agencies, including the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), Sarawak Forestry Corporation, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch Mukah Campus, the Malaysian Association for the Prevention of Drugs (PEMADAM), the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) and other organisations.
“UNIMAS values its collaboration with agencies, particularly Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, in delivering sustainability education to grassroots communities. With expertise across various disciplines, the university remains committed to collaborating with agencies to advance Sarawak’s Sustainable Development Goals agenda,” said UNIMAS.
