The five-day championship, held at UNIMAS from Oct 22 to 26, concluded with a total of 22 contingents comprising 1,542 athletes and officials from various higher education institutions competing in seven sporting events.
The tournament served as an important platform to foster sportsmanship and strengthen unity among students from higher learning institutions.
The closing ceremony was officiated by UNIMAS deputy vice-chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Professor Dr Al-Khalid Othman.
He said the conclusion of the championship marked not an end, but a new beginning in strengthening the development of sports among university students.
“This is not merely a closing ceremony, but the start of a new chapter,” he said, expressing appreciation to all athletes, officials and volunteers for their dedication and efforts.
He also thanked the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) for entrusting UNIMAS with the responsibility of hosting this year’s edition of SUKIPT.
2025 SUKIPT Sarawak has not only showcased the sporting excellence of higher learning institutions but also strengthened collaboration and ties between them,” he added.
Professor Al-Khalid expressed hope that future editions would be organised on a larger and more vibrant scale in line with the ministry’s commitment to advancing sports at the higher education level. – TVS
