KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is set to enter a new phase with the launch of its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which will be unveiled early next year.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said the strategic plan will serve as a key catalyst to drive the university’s excellence through academic strength, research innovation and holistic student character development.

“The new strategic plan is anchored on four key pillars, which will guide the university’s direction over the next five years,” he said.

He said during the second session of the 29th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony held at Arena Gemilang, DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS here today.

Ahmad Hata said the the first pillar, ‘Inspiring People’, focuses on talent development, motivation, well-being, and leadership among staff, students, alumni and the wider community.

“The second pillar, ‘Driving Innovation’, emphasises creativity, research excellence, entrepreneurship and digital transformation to strengthen the culture of innovation within the university.

“As for the third pillar, ‘Extending Global Influence’, it highlights efforts to strengthen international networks, expand global recognition and elevate UNIMAS’s academic reputation worldwide,” he said.

The fourth pillar, he said, ‘Advancing Sustainability’, focuses on financial resilience, environmental sustainability and institutional integrity to ensure the university remains steadfast in facing future challenges.

Ahmad Hata added that the four pillars collectively form a complementary ecosystem that shapes UNIMAS into a progressive, inclusive and forward-thinking institution.

“All these initiatives are aligned with the university’s overarching vision to be a leading global university and a driver of sustainable future impact,” he said.

The UNIMAS Strategic Plan 2026–2030, he said, is not merely a planning document, but a manifestation of the collective commitment and spirit of the entire university community to move forward toward a brighter future, — one built upon knowledge, innovation, human values and a shared responsibility for global well-being.

On a related note, he said this year marks the conclusion of the university’s Strategic Plan 2020–2025.

It had been a transformative five-year journey filled with achievements and meaningful progress in strengthening the university’s position as a competitive and high-impact institution, he added.

“Over the past five years, UNIMAS has advanced with strong determination to enhance academic excellence, reinforce research and expand student and community development all in line with its aspiration to be a leader of knowledge grounded in human values,” he said.
