KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Siemens Energy Malaysia have formalised a strategic partnership to advance sustainable energy research and innovation, following the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 on Tuesday (Jul 15).
The ceremony, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), saw the MoU exchanged between UNIMAS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie and Siemens Energy Malaysia managing director Azli Mohamed, with the event witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The collaboration, led by UNIMAS’ Institute of Sustainable and Renewable Energy (ISuRE), reflects a shared commitment to accelerating energy transition research, promoting innovation through industry-aligned grants, and strengthening capacity-building initiatives for students and academic staff.
UNIMAS was also represented by deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Ir Siti Noor Linda Taib, assistant Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Engagement) Associate Professor Noraziah Abdul Wahab, and ISuRE director Professor Shanti Faridah Salleh, along with other distinguished guests.
The MoU emphasises the growing role of academic institutions in driving impactful research while reinforcing Sarawak’s and Malaysia’s broader sustainability goals through meaningful partnerships with global industry players.
