KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has bolstered its international academic presence by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emerald Group Publishing East Asia on Wednesday.

The ceremony, held at the Theatre Multimedia of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), reflects UNIMAS’ commitment to enhancing its research ecosystem and increasing the global visibility of its scholarly output.

UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, signed the MoU on behalf of the university, while Emerald Publishing was represented by customer success partner, William Loh.

The strategic collaboration will pave the way for various academic initiatives, including expert-led publication workshops, the development of special journal issues, and support for international conferences and webinars.

It also promotes the exchange of teaching resources and best practices in academic publishing.

Describing the MoU as a “gateway to impactful knowledge exchange”, Ahmad Hata said the partnership aligns with UNIMAS’ vision to generate research that extends beyond citations and contributes to real-world solutions.

“Research must create measurable impact – tackling inequalities, enabling sustainable innovation, and strengthening inclusive systems in education and the economy.”

By working with a globally recognised publisher, UNIMAS aims to position its researchers at the forefront of international academic discourse while cultivating a culture of publication excellence within the institution.

The MoU signals UNIMAS’ ambition to become a regional hub for high-impact research and academic collaboration, guided by integrity and a commitment to sustainable development.
