KUALA LUMPUR: The Teaching Hospital and Prima Health Centre (PKP) project at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has reached 75.65 per cent physical progress as of February 25.

Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the project, implemented by the Public Works Department through the Special Project Team 2, uses the design-and-build method, with a current contract cost of about RM489.49 million.

He said the project is one of the government’s key initiatives to strengthen healthcare facilities and to support the development of medical education in Sarawak.

“Once completed, this hospital will serve as a catalyst to improving access to healthcare services and the development of local medical talent,” he posted on Facebook on Saturday.

Nanta said the government is committed to ensuring the project can be completed according to the stipulated schedule so that the facility can benefit the public and become a quality medical training centre in Sarawak.

Earlier, he visited the project site to observe the progress of the key components of the development, including the main hospital building, the PKP, specialist clinic facilities, the emergency department, as well as supporting facilities such as parking areas, therapeutic landscape spaces and supporting infrastructure.

“I also emphasised to all the parties involved to continue enhancing coordination and ensure every implementation issue is addressed proactively so that the project progresses smoothly,” he said. – BERNAMA
