KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) will introduce its own digital television channel, UNIMAS TV, this year as part of efforts to strengthen the university’s strategic communication and digital presence.
UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, said the platform would feature a wide range of content, including collaborations with external parties through formats such as podcasts, documentaries and other media productions.
He said the initiative would not only serve as an official communication channel for the university but also provide space for student involvement and industry engagement.
In this regard, Ahmad Hata called on UNIMAS alumni currently working in the media industry to contribute ideas and professional input to help shape the direction and sustainability of UNIMAS TV.
“We want UNIMAS to be recognised not only at the Sarawak level, but beyond. Through strategic collaboration with alumni and industry players, we aim to further enhance the visibility of the university,” he said when speaking at the UNIMAS Media Alumni Afternoon Gathering held at a hotel here today (Jan 24).
UNIMAS TV is led by its adviser, Dr Noratikah Mohamad Ashari, and is positioned as a video-based platform for information dissemination, promotion and student training, in line with the university’s digitalisation agenda and strategic communication framework.
The initiative is jointly organised by the 2025-2026 Student Representative Council (MPP), the Student and Alumni Affairs Office, the UNIMAS Corporate Communication Division, as well as relevant responsibility centres within the university.
UNIMAS TV is expected to strengthen the university’s official communication by ensuring information delivery is more structured, consistent and impactful.
