KUCHING: A delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) paid a courtesy call to newly appointed Indonesian Consul General in Kuching, Dr Abdullah Zulkifli, to bolster the long-standing collaboration between UNIMAS and the Indonesian Consulate, particularly in higher education.
Since assuming office, Abdullah, who officially reported for duty on September 27, has emphasised his commitment to strengthening cooperation in education, culture, labour, trade and investment.
“This visit is important as it reinforces our long-standing ties and collaboration with our Indonesian counterparts,” said Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit,who led the UNIMAS’ delegation.
Joining the Vice-Chancellor were the Director of UNIMAS Global, Thian Foong Fatt; Special Officer to the Vice-Chancellor, Mohd Hussaini Noorjaya Chew; Head of the Mobility Unit UNIMAS Global, Mohd Ilham Abdullah; and from the UNIMAS Corporate Office, Azlandy Tuah.
The delegation was warmly received by the Consul of Social, Culture and Information, Ibu Ely Syafitri Handayani.
During the meeting, Ahmad Hata provided updates on UNIMAS’ ongoing partnerships with Indonesian institutions and discussed potential new avenues for collaboration, including academic mobility, joint research, and cultural exchange initiatives.
Thian highlighted that UNIMAS and the Indonesian Consulate General enjoyed a strong relationship over the years and expressed confidence that future initiatives will further deepen mutual understanding and cooperation in education and cultural exchange.
Abdullah welcomed the delegation and expressed strong support for future collaborative efforts.
He acknowledged the important role that institutions like UNIMAS play in strengthening regional integration and building people-to-people connections between Malaysia and Indonesia.
