KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to experience continuous heavy rain in the western region between Jan 9 and 10 as a monsoon surge is forecast to persist until Jan 11, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia).

In a weather forecast issued on Jan 6, the department said weather models indicate that the ongoing monsoon surge may also bring strong winds and rough sea conditions over the South China Sea during the period.

MET Malaysia said a continuous rain warning alert has been issued for several regions nationwide including Terengganu, northern Kelantan and eastern Pahang until Jan 8, as well as eastern Johor from Jan 7 to 8.

The department added that a strong wind and rough sea warning over the South China Sea has also been updated and remains in effect until Jan 8.

Members of the public have been advised to stay informed by referring to MET Malaysia’s official website and social media channels, as well as the MyCuaca mobile application, for verified and up-to-date weather information.
