KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) continues to be a dominant political force in Sarawak, driven by strong leadership and a commitment to unity.
Party deputy president, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said since its formation, PBB has seen smooth leadership transitions, beginning with the late Tun Temenggong Jugah Barieng, followed by Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, and Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.
“Now, we have our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and we are fortunate to have a very remarkable leader. He is a man of vision, resilience and unwavering dedication to develop Sarawak.

“And you can see what is Sarawak today. We are a high-income region. Our income in 2024 was the highest, RM14.2 billion, and the strength of all other developments, especially after the implementation of Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, where we are striving for Sarawak to be developed and the people will enjoy economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability,” he said.

He said this during a special interview at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya here on Wednesday.
He added that the party’s unique structure, which fosters consensus between the Pesaka and Bumiputera wings, has been instrumental in maintaining internal harmony.
“This consensus has been practiced from the grassroots level, from Ranting (branches) to Cawangan (divisions), ensuring smooth transitions.
“The Pesaka will have our own line-up, Bumiputera will have their own line-up, so that there is no conflict between these two groups. This consensus or agreement of this understanding, has been practised all this while. And interestingly, it is not written in the constitution. This formula also has kept us united,” he said.
With the upcoming PBB convention, Uggah said the leaders aim to discuss future strategies to address political, economic, and environmental challenges.
“We must continue learning from the past and ensuring PBB remains a pillar of stability. PBB should discuss the way forward, how we will face various challenges and we must form a programme that can continue to strengthen the PBB, unify all the PBB members, and then support the leadership of Abang Johari to lead Sarawak,” he said.
With all 82 PBB branches nominating Abang Johari as party president, Uggah sees this as clear evidence of their strong support for the top leadership.
“Abang Johari has proved to be a leader of all Sarawakians,” said Uggah.
