KUCHING: A talented Sarawak artist, Derek Siu, has been making waves with his unique artwork, painting on tree bark and exploring digital art.
With over a decade of experience, the 37-year-old’s creations range from traditional cultural pieces to modern, pop-culture-inspired designs.
Derek began his artistic journey after graduating and has since expanded his craft.
“He has been painting for over 10 years, ever since he graduated in graphic design and animation from Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology.

“We used to see many artists creating their artwork, but what caught our attention was something different – paintings on tree bark,” said his mother, on his behalf.
Over the years, his art has evolved to include hand-made clay sculptures, 3D-printed pieces and stone art.
“Every month, we go out to showcase and sell his artworks,” she said.
His pieces are available for purchase at events and online through Facebook and Instagram.
The price range for his artwork varies, starting from as low as RM6 for a postcard to over RM2,000 for larger, custom-made pieces.
“Some works, like the tree bark paintings, are priced at RM399, while others can go up to RM800 or more.
“Custom orders are also available depending on size and design,” she added.
Derek’s best-selling works to date include digital art, along with clay sculptures, 3D prints, stone decorations, mini frames, key-chains, and more.
“We encourage him to continue growing as an artist,” said his mother, adding that for now, they are taking things one step at a time and seeing where it leads.
Derek also accepts commissions for custom artwork based on client requests, which can be arranged through his Instagram pages @DEREK.ARTWORK or @SHIU3HU_ARTWORK.
