KUCHING: Unity among Malaysia’s diverse races, religions and cultures remains a cornerstone of the nation’s strength and must continue to be preserved and strengthened.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said Malaysia’s journey since its formation in 1963 has shown that stability, harmony and togetherness are key to the nation’s progress and wellbeing.
He said Malaysia Day, celebrated every Sept 16, is not merely an occasion to commemorate the country’s formation but also an opportunity to renew the people’s love and sense of responsibility towards the nation.
“Malaysia may not be perfect, but it has allowed us to continue living in peace, tranquillity and harmony as a result of the unity that has long been built,” he said in his Malaysia Day message.
Abdullah said Malaysians must continue to appreciate the sacrifices of previous generations who fought to defend the country’s sovereignty and safeguard its dignity.
He also stressed that national symbols such as the Jalur Gemilang must be respected as they represent Malaysia’s identity, honour and sovereignty.
At the same time, he called on Malaysians to play their part as responsible citizens by fostering loyalty, noble values and patriotism.
“As Malaysians, we must work together to safeguard the country’s peace and wellbeing for future generations,” he said.
Abdullah also urged Sarawakians to remain proud of their identity as people of the Land of the Hornbills while standing firm as united Malaysians.
