KUCHING: For over six decades, unity has been the cornerstone of Malaysia’s strength as a sovereign nation, holding together its diverse religious, ethnic and cultural fabric.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof urged Malaysians to continuously safeguard and strengthen this unity in order to build a secure and prosperous future.

He said the peace enjoyed today did not come easily but was forged through sacrifice and the people’s spirit of togetherness.

“Unity is what enables us to move forward ‘segulai sejalai’ (together as one) in facing challenges, driving progress and elevating Malaysia’s standing on the global stage.

“The unrest in several countries should serve as a reminder for us to always choose the path of unity, not division.

“Malaysia is fortunate that its people reject extremism, hatred and division that could threaten the harmony of our multiracial society. We must never allow disunity to take away the peace we have built together,” he said in his Malaysia Day 2025 message.

The Energy Transition & Water Transformation (PETRA) Minister asserted that the Unity Government remained committed to ensuring balanced development for all citizens.

He stressed that the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) had been given serious attention, covering not only rights but also dignity and fairness for Sabah and Sarawak.

Through the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), he said, many achievements had been recorded, including the return of certain powers to the states, resolution of revenue issues and amendments to the Labour Ordinance of Sabah and Sarawak.

“These successes are the result of close cooperation between the federal government and the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak.

“This is the true spirit of federalism that we uphold – built on consultation, understanding and mutual respect.

“On Malaysia Day 2025, let us renew our resolve to preserve unity, reject divisive politics and defend the stability of the nation,” he added.

As such, he called on the people to move forward with confidence towards economic prosperity, public wellbeing and the strength of Malaysia as a nation.

“Unity, harmony and peace are the most important legacy for future generations,” he said.
