SPAOH: The spirit of Christmas brought together leaders and residents here recently in a celebration that went beyond festivity, highlighting Sarawak’s enduring values of unity, respect and social harmony.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the enduring spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ remains the backbone of Sarawak’s social cohesion and a vital bridge between leaders and the people.

The Bukit Saban assemblyman added that when unity is strong, trust follows — and with trust, development becomes easier to deliver, particularly for communities in Bukit Saban.

“When the bond between leaders and the community is strong, it smoothens the way for more development initiatives that directly benefit the community,” he said during the Bukit Saban Constituency Christmas Open House 2025 at Spaoh Community Hall last Saturday (Dec 27).

The Christmas open houses, he added, was more than just a celebration.

It served as a meaningful platform to strengthen goodwill, nurture mutual respect and reinforce the long-standing tradition of harmony among Sarawak’s diverse races and religions.

He pointed out that guests mingling freely with leaders while enjoying the spread prepared for the occasion, turned open houses into a lively symbol of togetherness where differences took a back seat to unity.

Also present were Uggah’s wife Datin Amar Datuk Doreen Mayang, Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, Political Secretary to Sarawak Premier Roseline Mapong Sabai, and Betong District Officer Laga Kueh.
