KUCHING: An unoccupied two-storey house was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out in the early hours along Jalan Satok, near the Celcom traffic light here this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said the blaze was reported at 4.31 am, prompting a rapid response from the Padungan fire and rescue station where firefighters arrived on the scene six minutes later at 4.37 am.

“Using one 200-foot hose line and two nozzles, firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire, bringing it under control by 4.55am.

“No injuries were reported during the incident,” the department said in a statement.

They added that the affected house, estimated at 40 by 80 square feet was a total loss, and that the fire was prevented from spreading to neighbouring properties, which suffered minor damage of about 5 per cent.

Meanwhile, the department also launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of damages.
