KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has clarified the refund process for unused Kuching City Parking System (KCPS) parking coupons following public confusion over the recent announcement.
Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said that all unused parking coupons bearing the validity year 2025 are eligible for reimbursement.
Refunds can be processed at the KCPS office located at Ground Floor, Lot 9688 and 9692, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm, excluding public holidays.
“The reimbursement period for unused valid coupons will remain open until Dec 5 while Borneo Parks App users may continue to submit their refund claims until Nov 15,” he said in a statement.
He explained that the refund exercise resulted from a coordinated effort between MBKS, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and KCPS to ensure a smooth transition towards a digitalised parking system.
“MBKS has always emphasised that no coupon holder should be unfairly disadvantaged, and this refund exercise is a reflection of that commitment,” he said.
Wee also addressed recent remarks suggesting a lack of transparency, stressing that such claims were unfounded.
“The facts of this matter have been made public since the joint coordination meeting was concluded.
“All decisions were made in good faith, with both city councils fully briefed and aligned with KCPS,” he said.
He reminded that public administration should be based on facts, not speculation, adding that politicising administrative matters only confuses the public.
“MBKS has always welcomed open and constructive dialogue, but discussions should take place through proper administrative channels — not through social media posts or political insinuations,” he added.
Wee assured that MBKS will continue working closely with DBKU and KCPS to ensure all refund claims are processed efficiently and that residents’ rights are protected.
“Our focus remains where it should be, on serving the public interest with transparency, responsibility and integrity,” he said.
