SIMANGGANG: The implementation of the Sarawak Dual Language Programme Assessment Test (UP-DLP) is expected to help students strengthen their ability to face future educational challenges.
Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, said the assessment focuses on the progress and effectiveness of the programme’s implementation as a whole, not on student performance.
“With the strong support of teachers and school administrators, I am confident that the implementation of UP-DLP will help students enhance their capabilities, especially in facing future educational challenges,” he said.
Harden said this during a visit to observe the UP-DLP implementation at SK Batu Lintang and SK Saint Lawrence (M) Sabu today.
At SK Batu Lintang, Undop, 12 pupils sat for the assessment, while 43 pupils took part at SK Saint Lawrence (M) Sabu.
He explained that monitoring is crucial to closely observe the progress of the assessment, and to ensure its implementation at the primary school level runs smoothly, systematically, and in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD).
UP-DLP serves as a platform to strengthen English proficiency and improve the quality of learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among rural students.
It is also an important Sarawak Government initiative to evaluate the achievement of Year Six pupils and Form Three students in the State.
Three subjects are involved – English, mathematics and science – to ensure students’ proficiency levels align with global educational developments.
Also present were Sri Aman District Education Officer, Abdul Rahman Muhiyuddin; Assistant Officer of Primary Education Division MEITD Sarawak, Irwan Sharkawi; headmaster of SK Batu Lintang, Kuri Atat; and headmaster of SK Saint Lawrence (M) Sabu, Alfred Kendim.
