MIRI: The Piasau Utara Fishermen’s Jetty is undergoing repairs and upgrades to further improve the working environment and safety for local fishermen.
The project aims to restore damaged structures and reinforce the jetty, providing a more stable and convenient working space for the fishermen.
Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii led a team today to inspect the construction progress, and received a briefing on the progress of the project.
“The fishermen’s jetties are essential community infrastructure, and their stability and safety must be ensured to support the daily operations of local fishermen.
“The fisheries sector is crucial not only for Miri’s local economy but also for ensuring a steady supply of seafood for our people.
“We must pay attention to the needs of our fishermen and provide them with a safer and more well-equipped working environment.
“This upgrade project will not only contribute to the development of the fishing industry but also enhance the safety of fishermen at work,” he said.
He added that the project is funded through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to ensure continuous improvements in community infrastructure.
The repair and upgrade works include restoring damaged jetty structures, reinforcing stability, and optimising safety features, allowing fishermen to operate in a safer environment while promoting the sustainable development of the local fisheries sector.
Yii reaffirmed his commitment to closely monitor the progress of the project to ensure its timely completion.
“I hope that this initiative will provide fishermen with better working conditions and further support the long-term development of Miri’s fishing industry,” he stated.
