LUNDU: A comfortable and safe hall facility is essential to support community programmes, including village meetings, festive events and community development activities, said Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.

He said the upgrading project of the Kampung Jangkar Multipurpose Hall, which involved a government allocation of RM200,000, has been fully completed and is now ready for use by local residents.

Billy said the previous condition of the hall was dilapidated and no longer suitable for use, prompting the need for upgrading works to be carried out.

“Although the project was approved in 2024, its implementation required careful planning and compliance with the stipulated procedures before it could be fully completed,” he said during his visit to the hall on Thursday.

He added that utilising the existing hall site helped expedite the project’s implementation compared to constructing a new facility, which would have required additional approvals, enabling the project to be completed as planned.

While the main upgrading works have been completed, Billy said several additional improvements have been identified to further enhance user comfort.

These include the construction of a drop-off structure at the front of the hall, the installation of a main drainage system to prevent soil erosion, improvements to lighting, and the installation of industrial fans.

He also expressed his intention to develop a multipurpose sports court near the hall to serve as a hub for sports and recreational activities, in line with efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen community ties.
