KUCHING: The Mile Seven Basketball Mini Stadium in Kota Sentosa near here is poised for a significant upgrade following assemblyman Wilfred Yap’s site visit on Thursday.
Yap reaffirmed his commitment to youth development and community well-being.
The visit, joined by Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) officers, focused on finalising the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for Phase 2 of the stadium’s refurbishment.
The project, funded under Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation of RM300,000, will add two new changing rooms, upgraded amenities, and expanded parking facilities.
“Basketball is more than just a game; it builds teamwork, discipline and resilience.
“By upgrading this mini stadium, we’re investing in a space where our youths can grow, compete, and thrive,” he said during the inspection.

The enhancements aim to provide a safer and more modern environment for both players and spectators.
With the BOQ serving as a roadmap, the project is set to proceed with a focus on transparency and quality execution.
This initiative is part of Yap’s broader vision to support youth-focused programmes in Kota Sentosa.
His past efforts include sponsoring sports tournaments and backing educational and recreational activities, all of which aim to equip the younger generation with the tools for future leadership.
“Our youths are the future leaders of Kota Sentosa. We must create spaces that allow them to develop their potential, not just athletically, but as well-rounded individuals,” he said.
The stadium upgrade is expected to cement Kota Sentosa’s reputation as a community, prioritising active living and sustainable development.
