KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has commended Kelab Perahu Naga KDB (KDB) for its dedication to promoting dragon boat sports and preserving cultural traditions.
Speaking at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) here, he asserted that dragon boating is not only a competitive sport but also a key symbol of Chinese heritage.
“Over the years, KDB has been dedicated to promoting this sport, enhancing both physical fitness and teamwork among paddlers while successfully passing down this tradition to younger generations.
“I hope KDB will continue to uphold the dragon boat spirit, stay united, and contribute to the growth of local sports and cultural development,” he was quoted as saying in a press statement by KDB.
The AGM, attended by 37 members, was a crucial event for KDB as it provided a platform to review past achievements and elect a new leadership team.
Among the attendees were Dr Yii’s secretary, Agnes, and special guest Ben, who joined in supporting the club’s efforts in advancing dragon boat sports here.
The meeting began with a report from the club’s president, detailing significant milestones over the past year, including training progress, race performances, and community outreach initiatives.
The president expressed gratitude for the dedication and support of all members, acknowledging their contributions to the club’s ongoing success.
A key highlight of the AGM was the election of a new 11-member committee to lead KDB for the 2025-2026 term.
The newly elected KDB committee for the 2025-2026 term will be led by President Lim Che Chien, with Teo Lik Wei (Jacky) as Vice President, Liew Hui Chai (Leslie) as Secretary, and Eunice Lim Shuk Hui as Deputy Secretary.
The Treasurer is Raymond Ong Siang Joo, assisted by Deputy Treasurer Chew Hui Ferng. The committee members include Bryan Wee Chung Wei, Chai Nyuk Tow (Mandy), Jordan Lee Hsien Foong, Ling Chai Hee (Rachael), and Richard Tsai Jan Chian.
With a renewed leadership team, KDB remains committed to advancing dragon boating, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and fostering cultural exchange.
Moving forward, the club aims to inspire more individuals to take up the sport while upholding the traditions and values that define dragon boat racing.
