SERDANG, Selangor: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recognises media practitioners as key strategic partners in amplifying the university’s expertise and achievements that had strengthened its reputation at the national and international levels.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof. Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. said continued support from the media has been instrumental in enhancing the university’s visibility and bridging the gap between academia and society through the dissemination of information based on knowledge and research.

“In addressing current challenges, UPM experts play an important role as agents of knowledge dissemination to the public.

“The expertise we possess should not be confined to academic publications but must be translated into solutions that deliver tangible benefits to the nation and the people,” he said when speaking at the ‘UPM Promotion with Media 2026’ event here on Tuesday night.

Also present was the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA), Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

Ahmad Farhan said close collaboration between universities and the media is crucial in ensuring accurate and authoritative information is conveyed to the public, especially in the social media era where information spreads rapidly.

He said UPM remained committed to advancing its global agenda through the ‘Planetary Health and Sustainability Blueprint’ as well as the ‘Food Security Blueprint’ to further strengthen the university’s role in ensuring societal well-being and national sustainability.

He added that the planetary health blueprint, which is set to be launched soon, will encompass various aspects including food security, sustainable urban development, mobility, waste management and ecosystem preservation.

In a related development, he said 29 UPM subjects were listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, reflecting the institution’s academic strength and global consistency.

“More notably, Veterinary Science continues to excel, maintaining its position among the world’s top at 38th place. This achievement reinforces its standing as the number one subject in Malaysia for five consecutive years and the best in Asia for three consecutive years,” he said.

He added that Agriculture and Forestry also sustained its excellence, ranking 64th globally, thus retaining its position as the best in Malaysia for 14 consecutive years and among the top 10 in Asia. – BERNAMA
