MOSCOW, Russia: Russia supplied the United States (US) with pastured eggs in July, marking the first time in modern history since at least 1992, according to an RIA Novosti analysis based on data from a US statistical agency.
The US faced a sharp increase in egg prices early in 2025 following an avian flu epidemic, prompting Washington to broaden import sources to help stabilise domestic prices.
Although egg prices have been declining in recent months, they remained 16.4 per cent higher in July this year than in 2024.
Therefore, the US expanded new markets for purchases, starting imports from Russia in July.
According to the US statistical service, the consignment was valued at about USD455,000 (RM1.93 million).
Russia, which sharply increased egg production in 2025, is facing a drop in chicken eggs prices.
In July, the average price in Russia was 83.2 rubles (about USD1.02 or RM4.32) per dozen – the lowest since the summer of 2023.
The Russian Agriculture Ministry said that producers have been forced to sell below cost.
July also marked the start of US imports of poultry eggs from Saudi Arabia, valued at roughly USD518,000 (RM2.20 millon).
Total US egg imports in July amounted to USD16.5 million, led by Brazil (USD8.8 million), Mexico (USD3.9 million) and India (USD933,000). – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
