WASHINGTON, United States (US): The US military attacked a tanker attempting to reach an Iranian port in the Gulf on Friday, German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing US Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM spokesman, Tim Hawkins, said the tanker had been “disabled” after attempting to run the blockade at least four times.
“The crew was repeatedly warned, didn’t comply, and US forces on scene disabled the ship after firing into its engine room. The ship is no longer transiting to Iran,” he added.
The US resumed blockading ships entering or leaving Iranian ports or coastal areas earlier this month.
It imposed a similar naval blockade from mid-April during the Iran war before lifting it in mid-June as part of a framework agreement with Tehran. – BERNAMA-dpa
