LIMBANG: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised the importance of using intellect wisely to seek effective and innovative solutions in overcoming the current economic challenges and climate change.

Quoting from the Surah Al-Anbiya, Verse 190, he highlighted the importance of recognising signs of wisdom around the people, urging Sarawakians to use their intellect in identifying and addressing the challenges and solutions of our time.

“We are heading towards a new era, especially for human life. If the situation (climate) becomes excessively hot, it may not bring comfort to humans, consequently impacting various sectors of livelihood.

“The world is also facing problems because there is no balance between human activities and the environment.

“Hence, the Sarawak government has analysed this matter, and that’s why we are shifting towards a new era and developing a green economy,” he said when officiating at the 63rd State Level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Ceremony at the Limbang Auditorium here yesterday (Mar 6).

Abang Johari went on to explain the potential consequences of the unstable climate, which could impact agriculture, marine ecosystems, and ultimately human lives.

“And this is a challenge for us to use our common sense to realise a solution.

“Everything (resources in Sarawak) is there, what we need is the energy to drive our economic development.

“We can produce energy from hydropower where we use the flow of streams, and we also use sunlight for solar technology. Therefore, when we have a good ecosystem we can develop our state,” he added.

The recital event will witness 12 Qari participants and nine Qariah participants competing for the title of Champion in Quran Recitation.

For Quran Memorisation, five Qari and Qariah participants will compete in the category of Juzuk 1-10, five Qari and four Qariah participants in Juzuk 1-20 category, and five Qari participants in the category of Juzuk 1-30.

The results of the competition will be announced on the final day of the event, with Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar expected at the officiation ceremony.
