KUCHING: Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Tan Kai has suggested that the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here to switch back to its original operating hours of 8am to 9pm.

Tan Kai said the new operating hours from 8am to 6.30pm were not suitable for those working until 5pm.

“To go to UTC, they have to face the traffic jams, search for parking space and queue up for their turn,” he pointed out when visiting UTC yesterday afternoon.

The operating hours were changed by the Finance Minister on January 22, much to the displeasure of many who complained that the purpose of UTC was to cater to the working population who did not have time to process their documents during office hours.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) also voiced its displeasure with the new operating hours recently.

Yesterday, Tan Kai visited the Immigration Department, National Registration and Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters at UTC.
