SIBU: Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) continues its annual tradition of giving back to the local community during the holy month of Ramadan by distributing bubur lambuk and bubur pedas to those in need.

This year’s event saw the preparation of 400 packets of bubur lambuk, made through the collective efforts of the UTS Women’s Association, led by its president, Datin Dayang Mariani Abang Zain, along with university staff and committee members.

The distribution process was also supported by the UTS Islamic Centre Committee.

In addition, 300 packets of bubur pedas have been prepared for the iftar and taraweeh prayers at the UTS Surau this evening.

“Every year, we organise this event in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, as it is a time when we are encouraged to give back to the community, especially those who are in need,” said UTS vice-chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.

He said this through a press statement today (March 13).

“This initiative also allows us to foster a spirit of togetherness in celebrating iftar and the Ramadan atmosphere,” he said.

The event is open to the public, particularly those living near UTS, who are welcomed to join the university’s iftar and taraweeh prayers.

“In addition to the food distribution, financial aid will also be provided to asnaf groups to help them celebrate the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he added.

UTS expresses its gratitude to the media for the continuous support in promoting university activities, as well as to the volunteers, students, and donors who contributed in cash and kind to make this Ramadan initiative a success.
